Conscious and in a good state of mind is now Fernando Herrera Ramírez, the man who was rescued after falling into a 12-meter-deep well in the Mícara area, in the Holguín municipality of Frank País.
The 63-year-old man was transferred to the local hospital after specialized Rescue and Salvage forces from the Comandante Pedro Soto Alba nickel factory and Commands 25 and 30 of the Ministry of the Interior worked hard for more than 24 hours to get him out from the well.
Dr. Manuel Galbán Blanco, general director of the hospital, explained that when Herrera Ramírez arrived at the health center, he was immediately evaluated by a multidisciplinary team, made up of a clinician, surgeon, orthopedist, intensivist and urologist, who defined the state of the patient as satisfactory.
“By the clinical examination, no fracture or other problem can be seen; however, in these cases it is necessary to exhaust all means to confirm the general condition of the patient”, Dr Galbán said.
According to reports from the Moa cameraman from Moa TV, Alexudis Leyet, Fernando Herrera Ramírez was carrying out maintenance tasks on the well on Sunday, when he was trapped by a landslide, due to the great humidity of the soil caused by the heavy rains of recent days.
For several hours, rescuers and paramedics fought to preserve the life of this resident of Cayo Mambí, whose rescue efforts required to dig a path parallel to the well, since it was not possible to advance along that path, according to local journalist Emilio Rodríguez.
