Biotur-2023, Biological Diversity and Tourism event organized by the Ecotur Oriente Travel Agency, has confirmed the participation of representatives from six countries, including Mexico and Colombia.
The event will take place from July 17 to 21, with the aim of promoting this type of tourism in the eastern region of the country, which on this occasion will bet on adventure and rurality in the northern part of Cuba.
José Walker Olaguibel, official of the Delegation of the Ministry of Tourism in Holguín, pointed out as objectives of Biotur-2023 to attract tour operators dedicated to nature tourism in Cuba and international sales, to present products from eastern Cuba, both traditional as the new ones planned to be commercialized, among them: the El Fructuoso cave, in Gibara and four new interpretive trails linked to flora, fauna and its landscape in Cayo Saetía.
The event also aims to strengthen working relationships with the managers of the products included in the local development activity. "Holguín has in its geography the Mensura, Pico Cristal and Alejandro de Humboldt national parks, in addition to 10 protected areas associated with these heights and small elevations in the northern part of the province.
“This is why Biotur-2023 has included in its program the option of group tours along the Ruta de Colón, Adventure through Holguín rurality, associated with tourism in farms, as well as Eco-adventure in flooded caves and Observation of birds and reptiles in different places of this geography.
Prior to Biotur-2023, Yoel Domínguez, director of Ecotur Oriente Branch, presented in situ La Grieta interpretive trail with its Bello Horizonte viewpoint, located on Cerro de Yaguajay, belonging to the Maniabón karstic height, more than 285 meters above sea level.
“This is a novel product due to its landscape, endemic and migratory bird species and having the possibility of seeing part of the northern coast from its natural viewpoint. It is integrated into the Ruta de Colón, as a seven-day, six-night excursion sold by our travel agency”.
“This is one of the most important bird watching areas in eastern Cuba, which is why one of the groups that will participate in this edition of Biotur will reach this highly accessible, medium-complexity trail, which has the privilege of being located near several hotels in the tourist pole, so customers can get there by bicycle and other means of transportation”.
Biotur-2023 will begin on July 17 in Gibara with the presentation of several conferences, including that one by the professor of Ecology at the University of Kansas EU, Debra Sue Baker, who will address the potential for bird watching in eastern Cuba.
The agenda also includes a commercial round, book presentation and tasting of typical dishes from the Villa Blanca de los Cangrejos.
