Heavy rains caused flooding in areas close to rivers, people evacuated and power cuts this weekend in the municipality of Banes, Holguín province.
The main damage is concentrated in the Centro Ciudad Sur Popular Council, vulnerable to these weather conditions, which has 17 homes affected by the penetration of water, while no loss of human life has been reported.
Guillermo Calzadilla Rodríguez, secretary of the Municipal Administration Council, told the local newspaper ¡ahora! that the government authorities immediately carried out an assessment of the damage and the condition of the 23 people evacuated due to the storm.
He stressed that as part of the recovery actions, work is being done to restore electrical service in the town, as well as the determination of epidemiological risks by the health authorities.
The commercialization of food and personal hygiene products, the replacement of basic basket supplies and the sanitization of drains and sewers to restore the water supply are among the actions carried out, he pointed out.
