As part of the international collaboration projects, the Center for Research and Environmental Services (CISAT) in the province of Holguín strengthens ties with the University of Sapienza, in Rome, Italy, among the strategies to increase archaeological studies.

The agreement includes conference cycles by Alfredo Coppa, who recently visited representative sites of Indo-Hispanic contact, including Chorro de Maíta, among the most representative aboriginal cemeteries in the Caribbean area.

Bertty Juan Almanza, a specialist from the CISAT science and technology department, told ACN that cooperation strengthens areas such as anthropology and paleontology, which allows getting closer to pre-Columbian cultures in insular America.

She highlighted among the topics included, the demographic structures and oral diseases of these populations, as well as the evidence of the assimilation of Spanish customs in food and other areas.

She explained that these joint studies will provide new insights into nutrition and population patterns not only in Cuba but also in the Dominican Republic, topics already investigated by experts from this university.

In addition, studies may be carried out by specialized laboratories, which the Greater Antilles currently does not have due to the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States, imposed since 1962.

CISAT promotes projects for the exploitation of coral reefs, the control of invasive exotic varieties such as lionfish and also other branches, including archaeology.

This scientific center also has a multidisciplinary team to monitor the more than 10 beaches for tourist use in the eastern territory, whose results are included in the hotel construction programs.
