With headquarters at the National Union of Architects and Construction Engineers of Cuba (Unaicc) branch in the province, the event was convened by the Office of Monuments and Historical Sites and the Provincial Center of Cultural Heritage of Holguín, among other cultural institutions.

Carlos Diaz Matos, director of the Office of Monuments and Historic Sites, told the local newspaper ¡ahora! that it will open with keynote speeches, such as "Methodology proposal in heritage buildings in historic centers", by the MSc. Ivet Planas Trujillo.

An encounter with history and local identity is the objective of this event in which historians, sociologists, urban planners and social communicators come together to share knowledge and projects related to the creation and development of Holguín heritage.

"It promises to be a great event due to the quality of the works presented," said Diaz Matos, "a mixture of urbanism, architecture, heritage conservation, in which it stands out the plastic arts contest for children that will allow knowing how they perceive their city through drawings.”

Historian Hiram Pérez Concepción, one of the organizers of the event, said that since its creation, it should pursue a union between the geographical and cultural landscape of the city, where symbols such as the Periquera and the Loma de la Cruz were values to be protected together with the eclectic architecture, the unique urban layout and the squares system.

The workshop "The City we want" is held annually on the eve of the anniversary of the founding of Hato San Isidoro de Holguín, which took place on April 4, 1545, and the constitution of the town on the same day in 1720.
