Her Excellency Mrs. Beate Stirø, Norwegian ambassador to Cuba, on Tuesday paid a visit to the province of Holguín, where she referred to several of the existing projects between her country and the largest of the Antilles, including the environment, culture and energy.

In her meeting with Yunia Pérez, deputy governor of the province and other officials of the territory, the European Diplomat emphasized the support for the Biological Corridor in the Caribbean (CBC), to which Cuba, Haiti, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic are also linked.

The CBC works based on the support of the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the financial support provided by the European Union through various projects, with the objective of achieving the conservation and management of terrestrial and marine biodiversity in the area.

In this regard, Beate Stirø pointed out that with the support of her country "a detailed study of the area could be carried out, which will allow the implementation of policies aimed at protecting the marine and terrestrial biodiversity of that region."

When addressing the cultural issue, she pointed out the Norwegian collaboration in the Gibara International Film Festival and the links established with the Holguín contemporary dance company Codanza.

For her part, Yunia Pérez explained to the visitor some of the main economic activities of the territory, such as tourism, nickel production and the iron and steel industry, as well as the potential of this province to develop foreign investment.
