In El Paraíso, a vulnerable neighborhood in the city of Holguín, the transformation based on the efforts of the delegate of that constituency is the watchword for the benefit of the quality of life of the residents of that settlement, located in the Alcides Pino People’s Council.
Dr. Ernesto Planche, who resides here, told ACN that this community is an example of revolutionary work in favor of the most humble sectors of the population and in response to the needs raised in the meetings of the delegate and his constituents.
For several years, illegalities, youth unemployment, antisocial behaviors proliferated in that place, which has changed since 2017, with the creation of the sociocultural project "El Paraíso, mi barrio se mueve", as an alternative to modify these living conditions, he explained.
He pointed out among the most notable works in the community, the reconstruction of the elementary school, to which the roof was replaced; its classrooms and the plaza were expanded, as well as the painting of the interior and exterior areas with a positive impact on the teaching-learning process.
For her part, Yoenia Ortiz, director of the educational center for 13 years, said that with the participation of state agencies and government authorities, constructive reforms were achieved in record time, in response to one of the most frequent demands of the habitants.
She referred to the work of the delegate Orlys Pacheco García and his working team, in these functions since 2014 and in whose management the medical office and the warehouse were repaired, while a children's playground, a cafeteria and an area for sports training for children and adolescents were built, as a form of local government.
In this regard, the connection of the houses to the aqueduct and sewage systems, the cleaning of the micro-dumps and collective work to beautify the common areas of "El Paraíso" were achieved.
At the same time, the cultural promoter Mariam Domínguez, highlighted among the transformations the reforestation days, educational talks, workshops, sports activities, training courses, book sales and gastronomic offers.
According to Domínguez, the inhabitants participate in visits to historical places, in the rescue of autochthonous traditions, dances and Creole food and the formation of values, and spoke about the "Almiquí" film project, which involves a group of children who film, edit and share in social networks videos of daily chores.
El Paraíso is included in the renovation program for vulnerable communities, which covers 45 settlements in the eastern territory, concentrated in 14 municipalities and with improvements in plumbing networks, housing, roads and access to services, among other areas. (Source: ACN)
