Refurbishment of vulnerable communities in Cacocum is progressing

The refurbishment of the vulnerable communities in the municipality of Cacocum, Holguín province, stands out among the results of that territory, with a rural population of about eight thousand inhabitants.

Through an investment program that includes the health, education and sports sectors, the quality of life is gradually improving in communities such as Limpio Chiquito, El Zarzal, La Fortuna, El Paso and Talabera, located within the demarcation.

Enan Noy García García, municipal director of Housing, told ACN that more than two thousand dirt floors have been eliminated and roofs and subsidies are provided to low-income families identified by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

He added that in terms of mothers with three or more children, this project make investments and maintenance to more than 100 houses, despite the limitations of cement and steel.

For his part, José Luis Rodríguez Áreas, director of Culture in Cacocum, explained that this sector works on the creation of community initiatives and the development of artistic teaching workshops, led by the residents themselves.

He commented among the priorities the incorporation of young people to study and work, in addition to the preservation of the peasant traditions of this rural municipality, materialized in local groups such as Los Guerrilleritos, cultivators of native music and dance.

Added to these initiatives are sporting events, improvement of accessibility to goods and services, and works in medical offices, warehouses, and parks, with greater comfort and finishing guarantees.

Holguín has an extensive program of attention to vulnerable communities that covers 45 population settlements in the 14 municipalities, which, in addition to investments, includes new job offers, promotion of traditional customs and access to school macro-programs.
