The high winter season in the Holguín tourist destination was decribed as excellent, after the drop in foreign visitors faced in the last two years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Carlos Álvarez, sales representative of the Ministry of Tourism delegation in the province of Holguín, explained that they expect the influx of clients to be stable, especially at the Gran Muthu Almirante Beach hotels, 5-star category, located in Guardalavaca; Playa Pesquero and Playa Costa Verde, which have exceeded 80 percent accumulated occupancy so far in January.
Today all the facilities are open, with the exception of the old Yuraguanal or Memories, a facility in which some work will be carried out to be managed by the Meliá chain and become the “Sol Turquesa Beach”.
While the recently opened Tesoro del Atlántico hotel with 860 rooms, located on El Ramón de Antilla peninsula, is now managed by the Blue Diamond chain and is marketed under the name Grand Memories Holguín.
This level of occupancy is supported by the gradual increase in its operations at the Frank País International Airport in Holguín, whith an average of 53 weekly flights, although it is expected an increase of flight arrivals from various countries in the coming days.
Yoel Hechavarría Leyva, general coordinator of the Holguín air terminal, pointed out that the Sunwing, Transat, Air Canada, WestJet, Cóndor, Neos and América Airline airlines continue to connect with this destination, among others.
He highlighted that as of last December several Canadian airlines linked Holguín with other airports in that northern nation, to the traditional ones of Toronto and Montreal, by adding Quebec, Hamilton and Ottawa, in order to reaffirm that country, as the most important tourists issuers to Holguín.
