Community project in Holguín links health and science

Strengthening the links between health and science is one of the main objectives of a community project developed in the "Mario Sánchez Vives" nursing house, in the city of Holguín, for the care of this vulnerable sector.
The project, promoted by the Center for Environmental Research and Services (CISAT), contributes to improving the quality of life of the elderly as one of the examples of the social work of the Cuban Revolution.
Betty Juan Almanza, a communication specialist for that entity, told ACN that the initiative includes activities such as planting vegetables and medicinal plants, through sustainable agriculture techniques.
She explained that with regard to environmental events, they promote participation contests, exhibitions of objects with recyclable materials and talks related to climate change and sustainable development, among others.
She noted the performance of physical and relaxation therapies such as yoga , with routines adapted to the conditions of each patient.
Holguín also has a broad investment schedule to improve the infrastructure and provide greater comfort to nursing homes, which exceed 20 in the eastern territory.
Through the family doctor and nurse program, active research is also encouraged, the control of chronic non-communicable diseases and the use of natural and traditional medicine in the care of this vulnerable population group. (Source: ACN)
