To promote the creation of labor groups and increase the sense of belonging of the workers in the sugar sector, urged the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca in his visit on Sunday to the municipality of Urbano Noris in Holguín province.
Accompanied by the highest authorities of the province, Tapia Fonseca checked issues related to the sugar harvest and exchanged with workers and directives here.
In the town of San Francisco, he spoke with representatives of the UBPC Félix Rojas and the sugarcane labor group belonging to this production form.
Here he was informed about the operation of this structure and reflected on the advantages offered by the creation of labor groups, an issue that have been promoted since the 63 measures directed to revitalize the agro-sugar sector.
He transmitted some ideas in order to gain autonomy and achieve better quality in the sugarcane planting, seedselection, the population of plants per furrow and cultural care, so as to achieve optimum production performance. All of this, he said, has to be reflected in the worker’s payment systems, pointing out that "they must be stimulating wages and have a correlation with the activities carried out.”
The Deputy Prime Minister also pointed to agricultural diversification and land use in order to promote self-consumption. In this sense, he stressed the need to promote the planting of cassava, since it does not require great effort or investment and its use in human and animal nutrition.
Tapia Fonseca also visited the Urbano Noris sugar company, which currently processes cane to obtain the molasses used in alcohol production.
There, he was also interested in the conditions of the factory, the machinery and the roads, among other issues, with a view to the upcoming sugar harvest and what is being done to improve the attention to man in the different areas.
