The winter high season 2022-2023 in the Holguín’s tourist destination is expected to be much higher than the previous ones, according to the 17 airlines with itinerary forecast so far to the Frank País international airport, to guarantee some 65 weekly arrivals compared to the 22 currently being carried out.
Alexis González Arias, head of the terminal's ground operations unit, said that at this time air activity has been characterized by the early start of trips to the terminal, starting in November, when in previous years the growth was very discreet and gradual.
"This has the particularity of starting with large and more frequent flights, such as the Canadian airline WestJet, which opened the winter season in the province on October 31, to maintain two trips a week."
He added that the nearly 20 companies come from Europe, Latin America and North America, as well as the Caribbean region, although requests are still being received to cover this route, for which the Holguín terminal is working on achieving an adequate organization to serve the flight arrivals and departures with quality, based on the experience gained in assisting aircraft and their passengers.
González explained that they have faced complex days due to the number of aircraft arrivals, such as Tuesdays with 12 operations or Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays with 13 each, for which today they have already made the necessary adjustments to guarantee the correct flow of travelers and their attention.
Among the airlines currently operating in Holguín are Air Transat, Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing, and Bahamas Air, which joined with a direct flight from Miami; also Viva Aerobus, AirCentury, Sky High Aviation Service, from the Dominican Republic, with arrivals on Tuesdays and Thursdays; the Italian Neos and Swift, which has made all the charter trips from Miami with 16 frequencies a week.
Coupled with this influx of visitors, the tourist center has arranged its hotel plant with around 7,300 rooms, mostly located in the beach area and four and five stars category.
For this start of the winter season, several facilities reopened, including the "Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort" and "Sol Río de Luna y Mares", of the Gaviota Hotel Group and the Club Amigo Atlántico Guardalavaca, which restarts activity in its All Inclusive and new attributes modality.
