In gaining time, as indicated by the Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, lies the main challenge for those involved in the rehabilitation of block 2 of the Felton thermoelectric plant, damaged last July by a large fire in its boiler.
Given the complex situation of the national electricity system, it is important to have the 250 megawatts (MW) generated by this unit, one of the largest in the country, in the shortest possible time.
During a meeting on Thursday at the "Lidio Ramón Pérez", the also vice prime minister asked for absolute priority in actions and assurances, as well as organization based on productivity and optimal use of the working day in the face of the need to reduce the initial period foreseen for repairs.
He was also interested in the attention to workers, a decisive factor for a group that demands sacrifices and consecration in the face of the intensity of the work.
Eric Milanés, head of the Comprehensive Project Management, an entity created to lead the rehabilitation of block 2, explained that this process is progressing at 16.6 percent in its first stage, dedicated to the dismantling of the boiler.
He explained that entities such as the Power Plant Maintenance Company (ENCE), and the construction companies ECI-3, 9 and 16 are involved in the rehabilitation process of the plant. Likewise, work is being done on preparing the area for the reception, storage and conservation of equipment, as well as on the definition and location of supplies.
Euclides Rodríguez, general director of Felton, said that block 1 works in a stable manner and the fact that it does not generate at maximum capacity - 260 mw - is not due to the turbine, with optimal operation, but due to defects in the high pressure heaters, which will be repaired in due course.
