The Juan Rius Rivera Solidarity Brigade with Cuba, from Puerto Rico, is carrying out an extensive program of activities in the province of Holguín until July 13, which includes visits to institutions and communities.

The brigade, which is touring several Cuban territories these days, was received this Sunday by the political and government authorities at the Historic Site of Birán, located in the municipality of Cueto, where the book “Se hace verso al andar” was presented by its author, Puerto Rican poet and political activist William Pérez Vega.

Yunia Pérez Hernández, deputy governor of the province, thanked during the welcoming ceremony the brigade's efforts to denounce the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba and bring the reality of the nation to various regions of the world.

She also highlighted the friendly relations between Puerto Rico and the Greater Antilles, materialized in meetings with mass organizations, confrontation with disinformation campaigns and donations of equipment and supplies for prioritized social programs.

As part of the tour of the eastern province, the brigade also participated in exchanges with children and young people, volunteer work and a cultural gala in the El Paraíso community, located in the Alcides Pino People’s Council of the city of Holguín.

The members of the brigade also shared with children from the children's company Ronda de los Sueños during a show of Cuban music and dances in the Calixto García Park.

The program of activities includes a trip to the beach and a meeting at the headquarters of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, before leaving for Granma, the next destination on the itinerary.

The XXXI Puerto Rico-Cuba Juan Rius Rivera Solidarity Brigade, made up of around 100 people, dedicates its trip to the hero Oscar López Rivera, imprisoned for 36 years in the United States for fighting for Puerto Rican independence and pardoned by the government of Barack Obama.

After two years without traveling to Cuba due to COVID-19, the activists have already toured Cienfuegos, Villa Clara, Camagüey, Santiago de Cuba, among other territories, as part of a 30-day visit to the island.
