Holguín, Multiple activities planned to mark World Environment Day

The delivery for the first time of the recognition of beach for tourist use granted by CITMA to the coastal sector Brisas Guardalavaca, distinguishes the extensive program of activities in companies, institutions and schools to mark the World Environment Day in the province of Holguín.
The event, celebrated annually on June 5, was instituted by the United Nations Organization (UN) to promote actions related to the conservation of nature and the sustainable use of renewable resources worldwide.
Norkis Ochoa, a senior specialist at CITMA, said to the ACN that ths year’s celebration will take place under the motto "One Earth" and will include children's contests, reforestation of prioritized ecosystems, educational talks, conferences and the visualization of comprehensive results obtained by the Life Task in mountain communities.
According to Ochoa, the Provincial Prize will also be awarded during the celebration to recognize outstanding entities in the generalization of good practices in this area and the application of current environmental policies in their production processes.
During the celebration, emphasis will be placed on mitigating the effects of climate change through the reforestation of mangroves, the elimination of constructions in the sand dunes and the promotion of projects for the economic valuation of the coasts, essential in prospective tourism development plans, she said.
Among the activities, the Antilla Environmental Community Center, the Iberostar Holguín Hotel and a project dedicated to promoting the use of renewable energy to guarantee the supply of water in difficult-to-access areas of the municipality of Báguano will also be distinguished.
For her part, Norelis Peña, sub-delegate for the Environment, also highlighted Holguín's progress in recovering soils affected by mining, reforestation, management of used oils, and the completion of investments aimed at reducing the impact of polluting sources.
Since 1972, the UN instituted World Environment Day to facilitate the approval of government policies that contribute to reducing pollution, desertification, drought and the loss of biodiversity, among other problems, reports the website of this international organization.
