Scientific Results Presented in Holguín

Scientific results generated by specialists from the Center of Environmental and Technological Research and Services, were presented this week in Pinares de Mayarí, more than 100 kilometers from the city of Holguín, as part of the activities for the International Mountain Day on December 11. Among the results presented, was highlighted the study of the communities of the Holguin Turquino Plan, which includes the population settlements of Pueblo Nuevo de Pinares, Arroyo Seco, La Ayúa, Cabonico, in the municipality of Mayarí, Guamuta in Cueto and El Quemado in Frank País.
Félix Cabrera, author of the investigation, told the ACN that the inquiries include indicators such as migration, level of education, sources of employment and availability of labor force, whose evaluation is essential for the improvement of the quality of life of locals.
He stressed that the results of the project, started in January of this year, will be applied mainly in the solution of community problems, including the creation of conditions to assume the accelerated aging of the population.
In the event, with headquarters at the Integral Research Station of the Mountain, 600 meters above sea level in Mayari, were also presented studies about forest rehabilitation programs and the protection of mountainous ecosystems.
The program of activities, which will run until the next 15 of December, also includes tours of the ecological path La Sabina, Salto del Guayabo and Pueblo Nuevo community in Pinares, sites with great natural attraction located in the east of the Holguin head city. / ACN
