The XVI International Conference on Foreign Languages, Communication and Culture (Wefla) takes place from April 27 to 29 at the Hotel Brisas Guardalavaca in the northeastern province of Holguín.

According to Vilma Báez, organizer of the event, this edition is held in face-to-face and virtual modalities to expand the participation of professors and researchers in the current context still conditioned by COVID-19, which allows the participation of speakers from countries such as Canada, Colombia, France, Mexico and Algeria.

WEFLA opened with two master conferences on topics such as the teaching of the English language as a public policy on the Island by Reynaldo Velázquez Zaldívar, General Director of Undergraduate Studies at the Ministry of Higher Education, and the teaching of second foreign languages during COVID-19, by Shelley Taylor, a professor at Western University in Canada.

The agenda includes master conferences, workshops, book presentations and training on topics of interest to teachers, guests and students.

Thematic lines related to the experiences acquired during the post-pandemic teaching stage will be discussed in the event, as well as studies on translation, interpretation and professional development for foreign language teachers, among others.

Organized by the University of Holguín with the collaboration of the Chair of Canadian Studies, the international event also promotes research projects carried out by students.
