Gibara to host National Festival of Childhood and Adolescence

Sponsored by the National Federation of Film Clubs (FNCC) and the Voces del Audiovisual project, the coastal town of Gibara, in Holguín, will host from April 18 to 21the National Festival of Children and Adolescents “Luces de la Creación”.


With the aim to promote performance and appreciation in children and adolescents, the event has an itinerant character and was delayed two years due to COVID-19, Yoni Llanes Rodríguez, vice president of the FNCC, said at a press conference.

According to Bárbara de Jesús López, president of this event’s edition, organized for the first time in Gibara, the agenda includes exhibitions, audiovisual screenings, workshops, visits to communities, conferences, contests and exchange with filmmakers, among others.

In addition to the special presence of Kikirito, from Artemisa, projects from Pinar del Río, Matanzas, Villa Clara, Holguín and Granma will participate in the Festival.

Also included in this edition, the organizers pointed out, is the participation of the Cucurucho animation studios, with the presence of Guillermo Ochoa Sierra, from Havana.

The projects will present audiovisual samples, while the Matanzas Company Gabi&Sofi, dedicated to the production of educational toys and various items for the little ones, will present its first video clip El gallinero, among other works dedicated to this sector of society.

The event will be dedicated to the 205th anniversary of the founding of Gibara, the 60th anniversary of the Animation Studies of the Cuban Institute of Art and the Cinematographic Industry (ICAIC), the 35th anniversary of the FNCC, to the Voces del Audiovisual project, Georgina de la Caridad Preval Valdés-Miranda, founder of the Cine Club in Santiago de Cuba, and the renowned Cuban filmmaker Humberto Solás, founder of the Gibara International Film Festival.

The National Festival of Childhood and Adolescence "Lights of Creation" in its sixth edition is sponsored by the FNCC, the ICAIC, the Ministry of Culture, the Provincial Film Center, the Martin Luther King Memorial Center, the Government and the Municipal Department of Culture of Gibara, with its extensive network of institutions.
