China has underscored its deep concern and opposition to the actions of the United States against Cuba, including a possible blockade of oil supplies.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun urged Washington “to stop depriving the Cuban people of their right to survival and development, to stop undermining regional peace and stability, to end violations of international law, and to immediately lift the blockade and sanctions against Cuba.”
He also affirmed that China will continue to provide support and assistance to the Caribbean nation and expressed its confidence that, “under the firm leadership of the Cuban Party and Government, the Cuban people will undoubtedly overcome their current difficulties.”
“We note that the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already responded to this matter, stating that such actions constitute brutal repression against a peaceful nation that harbors no hostility toward any country, and further demonstrate that Cuba’s economic difficulties are primarily caused by the United States,” Guo said.
The statements are based on a report in the newspaper Politico regarding Washington’s plans to block access to hydrocarbons.
Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío described this intention as a brutal assault against a peaceful nation that poses no threat whatsoever to the United States.
In this regard, the diplomat condemned these measures as irrefutable proof that the economic hardships faced by the Cuban people are primarily caused and orchestrated by Washington.
The Cuban deputy minister recalled that figures such as Marco Rubio and John Bolton, in 2019, urged Trump to order a similar blockade, an action that was stopped at the time by national security agencies which considered that course of unjustifiable confrontation irresponsible and dangerous.
