The construction of the Levisa dam, in the Holguín municipality of Mayarí, is progressing despite the lack of parts, pieces and aggregates for the equipment used for its construction.
Authorities of the country and the province of Holguín, the Institute of Hydraulic Resources, builders of construction companies 16 and 17 appeal to alternatives, endogenous technical solutions, productive chains so that the fundamental work of the East-West Water Transfer in its third stage concludes in December 2023 as scheduled.
Brigades are currently working in the construction of the base of the curtain on the left bank, drilling for the placement of the platform for the plinth, excavation and shaping of the spillway and on the completion of the temporary facilities and maintenance of the access roads to the work.
Once completed, the “Levisa” will supply 80 million cubic meters of water per year to the Mayarí dam, a reservoir used to supply the population and the canals that feed the more than 30 irrigation systems located in Mayarí and Cueto.
Given the material limitations, priority is given to the construction of the Levisa-Mayarí tunnel, as well as investments related to food production, with an emphasis on promoting areas for rice cultivation.
