Deputy Prime Minister evaluates conditions for the restart of the school year in Holguín

Cuban Deputy Prime Minister José Luis Perdomo Di-Lella evaluated today in the province of Holguín the conditions for the resumption of in-person attendance of the 2020-2021 school year, taking into account the epidemiological situation of each of the 14 municipalities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Di-Lella was interested in the enrollment of first year students in day course, the organization of the student residence, the strategy of attention to continuing students and the assurance of material conditions, in addition to the measures adopted to guarantee social distancing in the common areas.
He stressed the importance of recovering the vitality of the residence, without renouncing the hybrid learning systems used as alternatives during the epidemiological contingency and compliance with the hygienic-sanitary measures established from the health indicators.
Likewise, the deputy prime minister noted the relevance of preventive and social work actions in the university, as well as the development of sports and outreach activities at the different headquarters of the University of Holguín.
Along with Perdomo Di-Lella, Martha Elena Feitó, Minister of Labor and Social Security, José Ramón Saborit, Head of Higher Education, and Ena Elsa Velázquez, Minister of Education, participated in the meeting.
Saborit referred to the actions of social impact carried out by teachers and students during the outbreak of the pandemic in support of sanitation work in isolation and food production centers, maintaining excellence in teaching programs.
For her part, Isabel Cristina Torres, rector of the University of Holguín, said that they have been working to guarantee curricular adaptations and differentiated attention to students.
About the educational centers used as field hospitals for the care of patients with the SarsCov-2, Torres added that sanitation and rehabilitation actions are carried out, including repairs of lights, carpentry, electrical and hydrosanitary networks, as well as disinfection of mattresses and furniture used for this purpose.
