The province of Holguín is getting ready for health intervention in populations and risk groups, which will include more than 500 thousand residents in the eastern territory, as part of the application schedule for Cuban anti-COVID-19 vaccine candidates.

This stage will incorporate people aged 60 years and over, and from 40 to 59 years old, with Abdala and Soberana 02, respectively, whose start is expected during the second half of June.

Dr. Luis Orlando Castro, deputy director general of the Provincial Directorate of Public Health, told the Cuban News Agency that the eastern territory is currently in the certification phase of clinical sites and vaccination points in the 14 municipalities, under rigorous protocols established by regulatory entities.

He said that the provisions for the preparation of these places include the conditions of cooling, running water and waiting rooms, administration of the vaccine candidate and observation area, with the necessary social distancing to prevent COVID-19.

According to Dr. Castro, more than three thousand health professionals have been trained to participate in the process, including nurses and stomatologists, based on parameters such as immunogen inoculation, treatment of adverse effects and hygiene and epidemiology procedures required for the success of the health intervention.

Holguín is will have 429 clinical sites and 469 vaccination points in clinics and schools, of which more than 200 are already certified.

The health intervention for groups and populations at risk, which began on May 10, aims to contribute to the reduction of the number of patients and deaths from the pandemic, as well as to control the transmission of the virus, which will make it possible to return to economic and social activities, without neglecting the indicated biosecurity measures.

Within this process, there are more than 36 thousand health workers and medical students in Holguín who have received the three doses of the vaccine candidate, whose schedule will extend until July 7, the doctor noted.
