Luz Magazine of the ConCiencia Ediciones publishing house of the University of Holguín was accepted in the CLASE-BIBLAT database, which strengthens the prestige of this publication with almost two decades of creation.
Minelis Tamayo Megret, editor of the magazine, said that this is a highly valued result, mainly by authors who seek to socialize the results of their research in serious journals.
Achieving this indexing implies to meet certain requirements, which are not always the same, since the requirements vary depending on the database in question. In this case, she pointed out that one of the demands placed on Latin American magazines is to be first in a directory, generally Latindex, based in Mexico.
“There are less requirements to be included in the directory, but to be part of its catalog, almost 40 points are established to evaluate, including the journal arbitration system (review of articles by experts in the thematic area), since the articles are judged by two experts who do not communicate with each other, nor do they know the identity of the author of the work. It guarantees the seriousness in the process, impartiality and quality”, she added.
Other aspects evaluated are related to the composition of the editorial committee; the origin of experts (arbitrators) who must be prestigious researchers, mostly from institutions in another province or abroad, as well as the published articles must be mainly external to the publishing institution.
"It is also necessary to comply with ethical standards related to the certification of the originality of the content to be published in the magazine, have an anti-plagiarism policy and be attached to international declarations that establish codes of ethics, among other requirements," she said.
Founded in 2002, Luz magazine specializes in the area of Pedagogical Sciences and publishes 12 articles every three months. It also has the CITMA seal that certifies it as an academic publication and it is indexed in databases and directories such as Latindex, MIAR, Redib, DOAJ, WoS (Web of Science, in the ECSI - EmergingSourceCitationIndex - collection), Redalyc and CLASE.
“The databases provide greater visibility and impact in the academic world, the possibility of being cited and therefore integrating internationally established rankings. That is why researchers always look for the best positioned journals, which in turn gives prestige to the institution to which it belongs, the province and the country ”, Tamayo Megret commented.
“We have an editorial body made up of personalities from Holguín, Havana, Camagüey, Tunas, Guantánamo, and countries such as Ecuador, Venezuela, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Angola, Spain, Portugal. We publish articles in both Spanish and English languages, while working to include Portuguese this year 2021.
Authors from almost all Cuban universities and countries such as Colombia, Mexico, Mozambique, Spain, Estonia and the aforementioned have published with us, "she pointed out.
“The aspiration is to continue advancing to achieve other indexes and maintain the current ones, since they regularly evaluate compliance with the criteria or modify them in order to gain more quality and transparency,” commented the editor of the magazine.
