The province of Holguín has been continuously reporting positive cases for COVID-19 in children since January to date, with five children admitted to the Fermín Valdés Domínguez military hospital and 22 to the Octavio de la pediatric hospital, seven of them suspects of the coronavirus and 15 under surveillance.

Of the total of 223 diagnosed in the last 15 days, 30 patients were under 20 years old, but most of them did not reach five years, a really alarming fact as they were infected by their families due to violations of established biosafety protocols.

At the closing of Monday, February 15, of the 21 positive for COVID-19 in the territory, three were minors; all asymptomatic and contacts of confirmed cases.

Although no minor has died in the province, it is a major concern of the political, governmental and health authorities of the territory that children are infected by the SARS-CoV2 coronavirus, due to the impact of the disease in the quality of life and health.

Health specialists call to protect the child population from the home, where more responsible attitudes must be assumed in the care of children, even in the community, where social organizations must play an active role in the face of social indiscipline.

Doctor Lisette López González, head of the National Group of Pediatrics and member of the Group of Experts of COVID-19 in the Minsap, warned that “in the third outbreak of the pandemic the pediatric population had been more affected. They are infected and also transmit the virus, which is why they have the same role as an adult or an elderly person in the epidemiological chain, although the evolution varies. "

There are 61 active outbreaks in 13 municipalities, with the highest incidence in Holguín, Moa, Mayarí and Sagua de Tánamo, with 56 positives admitted, 71 suspects and 1,189 contacts in surveillance centers.
