Increasing food production based on the work of local mini-industries in Holguín is one of the goals of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) in the province, together with cooperative members and the peasant family in 2021.
Currently the productive surplus of the cooperatives in this territory, a fundamental raw material of these small factories, is assumed by around 90 mini-industries associated with ANAP and others by management of the peasant who administers it, explained to the ACN Ernesto Reynaldo Romero, agri-food specialist of this association.
In this regard, the Credit and Services Cooperative (CCS) Adel Calderón, of the head municipality, stands out for its contributions to the agri-food program of products such as condiments, canned fruits and vegetables, tomato paste, vinegar and pulps for jams, compotes and ice cream.
Juan Carlos González, at the head of the mini-industry located in the community of Floro Pérez, in the municipality of Gibara, stood out in the processing of fruit trees, producing more than three tons per day of pulps and other derivatives thereof, added Reynaldo Rosemary.
To achieve the proposed goals, González works daily in two shifts, with 50 associates to its productive form, who plan to produce annually around 40 thousand quintals of fruits of different varieties of agricultural lines.
This mini-industry, also associated with the Beola production center in Gibara, assumes links with the tourism sector and the production of other inputs that the food industry does not assimilate due to capacity, such as beans, cucumber, garlic, chili pepper, onion and achiote.
It also processes peanuts, sesame and sunflower seeds for the production of edible oils, which are currently marketable in the retail network of the national territory.
Depending on the season of the year, these small factories, associated with the peasant and cooperative sector, process about 20 products, generating with their values income that is reverted in the expansion of the capacities and technological improvements of their means destined to the processing of the harvested lines , as well as in the development of agricultural activity and the promotion of new areas to guarantee the production process annually, as centers linked to agri-food programs.
