The municipality of Holguín started this Tuesday the third phase of the randomized population study to detect in real time the presence of the SARSCoV2 virus in groups of apparently healthy people, without reporting any contacts or suspects to Covid-19, reported the local radio station Radio Holguín.

The research aims to obtain precise estimates of the immune status of the population, monitor the evolution of the disease and identify the most important risk factors for the infection with the new coronavirus.

According to Dr. Eduardo Mitchell Serrano, director of the municipal unit of Hygiene and Epidemiology, the study is carried out with the same population group that started it last May.

"The test is carried out in the 10 clinics of the eight chosen health areas, which groups 147 people from 50 families, a varied ethnic and age group,” he explained.

"In the first stage, PCR tests (variant of the polymerase chain reaction) were performed with nasopharyngeal exudates, the second, tests for antibody detection (IgG), while the third stage includes an IgM test that will detail how the organism has created antibodies to face the disease ”, he explained.

Dr. Serrano noted the importance of the voluntary cooperation of the population chosen for the research, since the quality of the process will depend on their responsible participation.

"This is a study for the good of the families and the population. Their results will allow implementing sanitary measures to face this pandemic that today affects people worldwide, "he said.

The development of such complex research has high levels of organization in the areas selected, as well as the participation of a highly specialized team. / Granma
