Specialists Debate on Reproductive Health in Holguín

The event Fertilemb 2019 was the first scientific activity carried out by the Chair of Embryology and Fertility of the University of Medical Sciences of Holguín (UCMH), aimed at promoting a space where participants establish actions and propose new ideas in favor of the reproductive health.
This meeting, the first of its kind in Cuba, promoted the debate on the results of the effort to make reality the dream of many couples with problems in natural conception.
In the opening ceremony, Dr. Migdalia Ocaña Candelario, president of the Chair at the UCMH, stressed the importance of creating this new work team for the development of the specialty and training of teaching professionals and medical care in the territory.
Dr. Eloy Verdecía, director of the Regional Center for High Technology, explained that this year they have treated more than 170 new couples, performed 59 embryo transfer and 56 follicular aspirations.
By the end of the first semester, 452 clinical pregnancies were achieved in the province in the different levels of attention to the infertile couple, including the municipal and provincial consultations and the High Technology Center.
The territory has also reported a decline in the number of induced abortions, essential aspects in measures to increase fertility in order to approach the population replacement in a territory with more than 19 percent of its aging population.
