This northeastern territory was leader for many years in this surgical procedure since kidney transplants (Tr) began in 1996 at the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University General Hospital and later, the task was assumed by the clinical surgical hospital, where on average about 40 transplants were performed per year until 2019.
In this institution, KT with living donors was also started in May 2013, which benefited patients from Holguín and other provinces in eastern Cuba, hence, due to its general performance, the multidisciplinary team of the hospital was described as “one of the most important ones in Cuban kidney transplantation (KT), in quantity and quality.”
During the event, which will have the participation of specialists from transplant centers throughout the Island, the Holguín representation will address different topics of the corresponding medical work.
The program for the event includes the presentation of the research Guide to findings of Doppler Ultrasound in chronic dysfunction of the transplanted kidney, by Dr. Yanelis Rodríguez Hernández, and Dr. C Neila Bertha Santiesteban Collado.

Neila Bertha Santiesteban Collado; Kidney transplant in Holguín. Where we are and where we are going and Effect of immunosuppressants on the digestive system of kidney transplant recipients, are also among the topics for debate.
In the midst of times of shortage of medicines, resources and medical supplies faced by the Cuban health system, the health system is committed to innovation, research and the training of highly trained professionals, as a guarantee for the continuity of the National Transplant Program, through which many patients have achieved a second chance at life.
