The development of alternatives to improve the quality of life of patients with rheumatic diseases is one of the objectives of this service at the Lucía Íñiguez Landín Clinical Surgical Hospital in the province of Holguín.
Alberto Alberteris, a specialist at this health institution, told ACN that these consultations treat patients with arthritis, osteoarthritis, lupus, among other conditions, whose early diagnosis is essential to increase the chances of achieving satisfactory progress in those affected.
He indicated that the investigation of these conditions and their causes contributes to greater doctor-patient interaction and the conduct of clinical trials to alleviate symptoms, using Cuban biotechnological products.
The expert highlighted that studies are carried out in vulnerable populations or with risk factors and natural and traditional medicine treatments, from primary health care itself, with proven effectiveness.
In addition, work is being done on the training of specialists and the socialization of results through national and territorial events, as professional training tools, added Alberteris Rodríguez.
Rheumatology is the medical discipline responsible for preventing, diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal diseases, and is one of the specialties that has experienced the most increases in timely diagnosis and treatment in recent years.
Among the most common ailments treated are osteoarthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic back pain, tendonitis and lupus. (Source: ACN)
