The installation of 15 x-ray digitizers is one of the achievements of primary health care in the province of Holguín, within the framework of the 40th anniversary of this medical program founded by the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro.
Elizabeth Vichara, a second-degree specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine and head of this sector in the province, told ACN that these teams are installed in the 10 health areas of the head city and respond to one of the main demands of the patients by facilitating the performance of radiological examinations.
She pointed out that the investment contributes to the introduction of new technologies in the sector and economic savings in the chemicals necessary in the development used in conventional X-ray equipment, whose purchase is limited by the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba.
The modern technology, introduced in stages since 2018, improves the quality of medical care, since professionals access radiological studies through a database immediately after they are performed, explained Vichara.
Furthermore, the conditions are created in the territory for the generalization of the digital medical history, a necessary step aimed at strengthening the relationships between doctor and patient, essential in the monitoring of high-risk populations, she added.
A group of applications are also operating in polyclinics and hospitals aimed at improving the processing of statistical data, the organization of admissions, epidemiological surveillance in the emergency rooms and obtaining medical appointments.
These tools are part of the process of computerization of society, a multi-sector strategy that aims to promote the use of new technologies among the Cuban population, which includes electronic commerce and payment for services through digital platforms.
The Family Doctor and Nurse Program was created on January 4, 1984, with the objective of bringing the health system closer to the community and solving more than 70 percent of the conditions in the area. It has more 11 thousand offices and 35 thousand professionals linked to this project in the country. (Source: ACN)
