A project aimed at preventing teenage pregnancy is under way in the province of Holguín as part of the cross-sectional Mother and Child Program (PAMI).

Local methodologist and project designer María Elena Rodríguez remarked that it is based on the use of contraception methods, STI prevention and family planning, although its promotion is also focused on reproductive health and on the monitoring of children suffering from chronic diseases.

Developed in primary and secondary schools, the project envisages the inclusion of sex education in subjects such as Biology and Science and the design of related management structures.

Holguín is one of the provinces with the highest rates of pregnancy among females of the 10 to 19 age group, so PAMI is promoting an integral program to reduce this indicator through efforts involving Public Health, Education, Culture and Sports.(Source: ACN)
