A delegation made up of 25 professionals from eight Holguín municipalities will participate in the III Congress of Family Medicine, to be held in Havana from November 1 to 3, with the aim to promote the exchange of experiences and health knowledge linked to community medical care.
The Holguín delegation is made up of doctors from clinics, Basic Work Groups (GBT), methodologists, teachers, directors and deputy directors of polyclinics, as well as delegates from the University of Medical Sciences, the Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology and the Health Directorate.
Under the motto “40 years of achievements, challenges of Family Medicine in Cuba to achieve universal health,” the event takes place within the framework of the 40th Anniversary of the Family Doctor and Nurse Program (PMEF) created by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro on January 4, 1984.
Dr. Argelio Hernández Pupo, a Second Degree specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine (MGI) with more than three decades at the PMEF, explained that on this occasion, he will participate in the round table “Implementation of a strategy for the prevention and treatment of high blood pressure”, with a free theme and a digital poster.
Dr. Hernández Pupo commented that the majority of the members of the Holguín delegation will present their work in the different sessions and topics to be addressed at the congress.
According to information published on the website of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (Minsap), assistance is expected from all the country's provinces and specialists from some 11 nations, including Colombia, Venezuela, Spain, the United States and Paraguay.
