Cuba Presides Latin American Immunology Association

Cuba was elected to the Presidency of the Latin American Immunology Association for the 2018-2021 period for its outstanding results in the field.
 
The announcement was made during the entity’s 12th Congress recently held in Cancun, Mexico, in which Dr. Oliver Perez Martin, President of the Cuban Society of Immunology will chair the regional institution, according to a report published on Tuesday in the Cuban Health website, Infomed.
 
The organizers of the event also announced that Cuba will host the 13 th Latin American Immunology Association in 2021 which will receive the support of the International Societies of Immunology Union.
 
The Cuban delegation was the largest foreign representation at the 12 th Congress with 30 works presented and included researchers from institutions like the Molecular Immunology Center, Basic Sciences Institute and Victoria de Giron Pre-clinics and the School of Medicine in Havana.
 
Specialists from the Finlay Institute, the Bio Prepared Center, Biotechnology and Genetics Engineering, Pedro Kouri Tropical Medicine Institute, Oncology and Radiobiology, Cerro Pediatrics Hospital and the Dr. Ernesto Guevara Teaching Hospital in Las Tunas.
 
In the most important specialty in the area 484 works were presented, there were 23 symposiums and 18 workshops.
There were 54.8 percent women who also assumed 45.61 percent of the direction of the scientific sessions, important balance of the gender in immunology research carried out in Latin America, said the publication.
 
Among the main themes discussed were membrane, veterinary and comparative immunology, inflammation, primary immunology deficiencies; immunology in face of a virus, bacteria and parasites, neuro-immunology and clinical immunology. / Radio Rebelde
