Laurent Brun, member of the Confederal Bureau and Administrator of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT by its Spanish acronym ), announced a donation of 130,000 euros raised by the organization to support those affected in the eastern provinces following Hurricane Melissa.
As highlighted today by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its website, the news was received by Otto Vaillant, Cuba's ambassador to France, at the embassy, who thanked the CGT, on behalf of the Cuban people and government, for this show of solidarity and for the constant support of French unions.
Brun reiterated the CGT's commitment to Cuba and assured that it will continue working with other organizations and the solidarity movement to provide aid to the affected population.
During the exchange, both representatives discussed the recovery efforts underway in Cuba, from the highest authorities to the general population, following the damage caused by the tropical cyclone on October 29.
The sum, raised in record time, comes from contributions from approximately 23 CGT structures, including various federations and regional committees, with the aim of supporting the country's recovery efforts.
These funds will be used to ship several tons of essential supplies, primarily medicine and food, by air to the airports of Holguín and Santiago de Cuba. (Source: ACN)
