The protection of risk groups in the new normal stage stands out among the priorities of the health system in the province of Holguín, as part of the COVID-19 control measures and the guarantees granted to this population sector.
These actions include strengthening active health research in nursing homes, grandparents' homes, and other social institutions, as well as maintaining established biosafety standards, physical distancing, hand washing, and the use of the nasobuco.
In these centers, it was also applied the complete vaccination scheme with the Cuban vaccine Abdala, the first in Latin America to obtain authorization for emergency use, while the immunization of allergy sufferers and convalescents is also guaranteed, in accordance with the medical provisions indicated in each case.
As part of the reorganization of services, the semi-nursing options will be resumed in grandparents' homes, homes for the elderly and the Psychopedagogical Medical Center of the provincial capital, which will be adapted to the health situation of each of the 14 municipalities, according to a note by the Provincial Directorate of Public Health.
The process is developed in a staggered manner and in this first stage it has capacity for 50 percent of the patients benefited, taking into account the particularities and the health status of the elderly.
Likewise, provisions are adopted for the disinfection of surfaces, the use of foot steps and chlorinated solutions for washing vessels, clothes and other goods of common use in inpatients in these facilities, which include care centers for people with wandering behaviors.
Given the progress of the vaccination scheme with Cuban immunogens, in the province of Holguín, the third largest populated in the country with more than a million inhabitants after Havana and Santiago de Cuba, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 has been reduced despite the territory maintains a wide dispersion, with the greatest complexity in the municipalities of Banes, Antilla and Báguanos.
In the last 15 days, the positives to SarsCov-2 exceed 600 and 119 foci remain active in the communities, which represents an incidence rate higher than 66 patients per 100,000 inhabitants.
