Of that total, 1,973 are doctors and 255 dentists, as well as nurses, technicians and other professionals of the sector, with high training and several years of practice in the profession.

The countries with the greatest presence of Holguin doctors are Venezuela, Brazil, Angola, Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Ecuador, where they provide services in the modalities of Technical Assistance Compensated (ATC), Cuban Medical Services (SMC) and the Comprehensive Health Program (PIS), created in 1998 to extend free medical services to a hundred countries, mainly in Africa and Latin America.

The eastern territory maintains the relief system, which guaranteed the departure of 1,710 workers last year, mainly to Venezuela, the country with the bulk health cooperators from this eastern Cuban province.

In the annual meeting of Public Health, authorities from the territory praised the medical collaboration, for the health assistance provided in areas of difficult access across the world; also for the economic contribution that the service export program makes to the national economy.
