Expo El que no tiene de congo

The personal exhibition "El que no tiene de Congo...", by the young artist Aníbal de la Torre, was opened to the public on Tuesday at Casa de Iberoamérica, as part of the activities for the Holguín Culture Week in its 38th edition.

With a correct use of lines and shapes, the artist refers in each work to religion, faith, syncretism and identity that attract humans, specifically Cubans.

The exhibit comprises six works that delve into thought, and seek introspection and the mixture of beliefs in order to expose the legacy of our ancestors.

Through ocher and sepia nuances mediated by abstraction, Aníbal expresses his deepest feelings, his intention to defend the cubanía, the creole, and the autochthonous.

"I have experienced throughout my career in search of a personal seal, and my work "El que no tiene de Congo..." is something appropriate and identifiable," said the artist, who works as a methodologist at the Provincial Center of Culture Centers.

Aníbal is graduated from the School of Art Instructors and has a degree in Sociocultural Studies at the University of Holguín.

This is his first exhibition at Casa de Iberoamérica, but he has participated in more than 40 national and international collective exhibitions and about 14 personal ones.

Several of his works illustrate books published under the seal of Ediciones Holguín and Ediciones La Luz, while others are part of private collections in countries such as Cuba, Mexico, Italy, Canada, United States, Honduras and Ecuador.

The Holguín Culture Week will run until Sunday, January 19, with an extensive agenda that includes, among others, concerts by singer-songwriter Waldo Mendoza in the communities, the Traditions Fair in the Camilo Cienfuegos Square, panels, talks and film screenings.
