National Meeting of Son Music Groups Begins in Mayarí, Holguín

The municipality of Mayarí in Holguín province hosts from today until the 11th of November the 29th National Meeting of Son Music Groups, which is distinguished by the entrenched traditions of this musical genre symbol of cubanía.
 
Jorge Tito Cabreja, organizer of the event, explained to the local press that popular Cuban groups such as the Septeto Santiaguero, the Original de Manzanillo and Caribe Girls will meet in this territory of eastern Cuba to delight the public with their presentations.

It is also expected the participation of legendary orchestras such as the Aviles de Holguín, Los Guayaberos, Soles del Son and Los Tanameños, as well as the host of the event Taínos de Mayarí orchestra, which recently recorded the album Pura Música Cubana with the Recordings and Musical Editions Company (EGREM), he added.

During the event, the Central Plaza of Mayarí will be the main stage, in an environment nuanced by the greenery of the eastern lomerío and the contagious rhythms of the son.

The agenda of the meeting includes, among other activities, La peña de la rumba, the cultural space Children sing and dance the son, exhibitions of plastic arts and the traditional homage to the mother of the renowned pianist Frank Fernández, who was born in Mayarí in 1944, Cabreja said.

Cabreja, who is also the director of the Taínos de Mayarí, said that the popularly known as the Son Festival get stronger every year and captivates the entire province of Holguín, especially lovers of the genre.
