Gala Dia Cultura 1

The commemorative gala for the Cuban Culture Day took place this October 20 at the Eddy Suñol Theater, in the city of Holguín, which was dedicated to Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso.

The gala included the different Cuban artistic expressions, from the colonial period to the present time, performed by local artists.

“Neither modernity nor postmodernity have been able to replace authentic traditions, nor is there an end to history. Once a gain they rise strong  in the midst of adversity, the traditions of insular struggle emerge, their inevitable joy, their traditional capacity to love and share, as well as to resist and overcome obstacles of insurmountable appearance, ”said Eliel Gómez , president of the José Martí Cultural Society in the province.

Once again, iconic pieces of the musical repertoire in the island returned to the stage, such as “La Bayamesa ”, written by Carlos Manuel de Céspedes , Francisco Castillo and José Fornaris , in 1851; and the zarzuela “ María La O” composed by Ernesto Lecuona, in the version of the Rodrigo Prats Lyric Theater.

The Cuban Culture Day was established to commemorate the intonation for the first time of the National Anthem “La Bayamesa," on October 20, 1868.
