Decorative works with exclusive designs distinguish the Peru’s traditions during the Iberoarte-2019 International Crafts Fair taking place in the eastern Cuban province of Holguín.
The Marco Polo group from the Andean nation came to this eastern city to exhibit and market the pottery of Chulucanas, conceived from special clay that is only found in that town belonging to the department of Piura, north of Lima.
The Peruvian artisan José Antonio Núñez said to the Cuban News Agency that due to its traditional character based on ancestral practices, the items are sold in more than 60 countries, as they enjoy wide international recognition and are considered the flagship product of that country.
Those who visit the Expo Holguín fairgrounds, main venue of the event, will find in the stand of Núñez a variety of ornamental pieces such as clay pots and centerpieces with varied components.
About the manufacturing process, he explained that it can take two to three days, since he uses the hand modeling and the negative decoration method, which consists of reducing oxygen in cooking.
The colors are achieved naturally from banana and mango leaves, in addition, they perform seven types of baking until conceiving the expected nuances with a predominance of black tones, he added.
Iberoarte, said Núñez, is a space for exchange between artists from various countries and the display of their traditions as an identity element of each nation, which encourage them to meet again in future events.
The Iberoarte Crafts Fair takes place in Holguín since 2001 and this time it has 63 foreign exhibitors, among which the delegation of Peru stands out as the most numerous, highlighted the ACN Yamilé Escalona, specialist in Communication from the Cuban Fund of Cultural Property (FCBC) in the province.
