Holguin will become the headquarters of the National Dance Festival, deserved recognition for the promotion of that artistic expression after the celebration here of the North Atlantic Dance Competition and Vladimir Malakhov Grand Prix since 2014, and the great presence of the audience.
The news was informed by Maricel Godoy, founder and director of the Codanza Dance Company, prior to the celebrations for the 27 anniversary of the group, which will take place from September 21 to 29.
The Grand Prix, which traditionally takes place on these dates as part of the activities for the anniversary of Codanza, will be performed biennially from 2019. However, the dance movement in the territory will not stop working.
The activities will begin on September 21 at the Eddy Suñol Theater with the special performance of the multi-award dancer Jesus Rubio Gamo, who will present the monologue “Now that we are not too old yet”; as Godoy pointed out.
She added that teacher Lilian Padron, director of Danza Espiral, will stage a version of the piece “The consecration of spring”, deserving of the Villanueva Critics Award in 2019.
The Guantanamo choreographer and dancer Yoel Gonzalez, winner of the Grand Prix in several occasions, will offer premieres with the companies Codanza and Medula, the latter founded by him.
The event will have the presence of renowned dancers and teachers Aurora Bosch, Alberto Mendez, Ruben Rodriguez and Isidro Rolando Thondik, who will give lectures and master classes.
