The inauguration of the exhibition "La Oficina", an international community-artistic project, within the framework of the XV Havana Biennial, took place this Saturday in the city of Holguín.
The community El Purial was the setting chosen for the development of this collaborative project, given that Luis Ramón Silva, the Holguín artist behind this initiative, resides and develops part of his sculptural work there, using stones, trees and the earth itself for his creations.
The artist explained that the proposal of terrestrial and environmental art includes 22 sculptures made with natural elements such as stones and trunks, designed to blend harmoniously with the environment.
He added that the exhibition aims to promote environmental conservation, taking advantage of the natural resources of the area.
In the event, Silva was awarded the Electa Arenal distinction in recognition of his artistic career, which includes a wide variety of works where he uses wood, metal, ferrocement and marble.
The temporality of the works exhibited at La Oficina is not unfavorable: "We know that they are ephemeral pieces and we are happy with that because the raw material will go back to nature, which has provided it to us and that is the objective," said Silva.
This artistic philosophy that values the natural cycle of life and the inevitability of change is also practiced by Karen Macher Nesta from Peru, Michel Dapatie from Canada and Karim Van der Molen from Holland, guest artists who work with similar resources and techniques in their native countries.
