The Cuban Society of Information Sciences (SOCICT) in the province of Holguín, develops novel research on the work of the prominent librarian Juan Albanés, remembered for his contributions to culture in the first half of the nineteenth century.
Leonardo Nieves, president of the SOCICT branch in the territory, told the ACN that the study includes the writings of Albanés, grouped in 17 volumes, which include historical facts and personalities of the cultural life of the territory in that period.
He stressed that this initiative also forsees the digitalization of documents, considered of great patrimonial value for their detailed descriptions of buildings, monuments and streets of the eastern city, also called the Cuban city of parks.
According to Albanés, these results are presented in the biennial colloquium "Juan Albanés in Memorian", organized by the Cuban Association of Librarians in the territory, the Alex Urquiola Provincial Public Library and the Diocesan Library of Holguin.
The SOCICT also develops researches on document management and the promotion of culture, civic education, science, environmental protection and local development, one of the strategies to contribute to the computerization of society.
This organization emerged in 1989 and has among its purposes to ensure the development of science, strengthen national identity and promote research projects that contribute to the advance of the Cuban economy.
In Holguin, the organization has among its main programs the development of a multimedia entitled "Visibility of Holguin science", which summarizes the main results of this sector in the territory.
