The 28th edition of the Ibero-American Culture Festival takes place from today in Holguín until October 30 with an extensive program of activities that includes concerts, exhibitions, artistic solidarity brigades and an archeology day.
Organized by Casa de Iberoamérica, the event brings together every year artists, promoters and researchers around the traditions of the region, and it will recall as central theme the three decades of cultural debate around the mutual encounter between America and Europe in 1492.
Ernesto Angulo, member of the Organizing Committee and deputy director of Casa de Iberoamérica, told ACN that the Festival will have the presence of more than 15 nations and delegates from various provinces.
Among the most important activities for the event, to be held in person and online, stands out the opening concert at the Eddy Suñol Theater by the Holguín Symphony Orchestra and guests, conducted by maestro Oreste Saavedra.
The agenda also includes the traditional parade from the El Quijote park to Casa de Iberoamérica, the Iberian Cultural Center in La Periquera Provincial Museum, the Iberocuento and Fiesta Campesina events.
Plastic arts exhibitions, the Iberoarte International Crafts Fair and the National Archeology Day are also among the activities planned; while the Solidarity Artistic Brigades and the Rebel Art Brigade of the Hermanos Saíz Association will reach several municipalities in Holguín, added Angulo.
For its part, the Ibero-American Congress of Thought will take place in the Hotel Pernik on the 25th and 26th, having as its main theme the same one that governs this edition, explained Bárbara Martínez Pupo, who organizes the theoretical event of the Festival.
The specialist added that this year a hundred speakers and guests are participating in the Congress, with the presence of Italy, Chile and Canada, as well as seven Cuban provinces, such as Santa Clara, Camagüey, Santiago de Cuba and Las Tunas.
According to the specialist, theoretical forums, panels, conferences and talks will be held in the event; in addition to the papers that compete for the José Manuel Guarch Delmonte National Research Award. Issue 5 of the Guayza magazine, a research and social criticism text edited by the Casa de Iberoamérica, will also be presented.
This year’s event is dedicated to the 530th anniversary of the encounter between two cultures, to the centenaries of the Provincial Concert Band and of Antonio Núñez Jiménez, to the 60th anniversary of the local newspaper ¡ahora! and the 30 anniversary of the contemporary dance company Codanza.
