Holguín convenes the VIII José Juan Arrom Colloquium

The Casa de Iberoamérica, the Holguín Chapter of the Economic Society of Friends of the Country, the National Union of Historians of Cuba and the Cuban Society of Information Sciences in the eastern province, convene researchers, specialists, writers, artists, students and people interested in participating in the VIII José Juan Arrom Online Colloquium, a scientific-theoretical event to be held on April 4, 2022 from this city.
The event aims to promote studies on Ibero-American cultures and pay tribute to the outstanding intellectual born in the city of parks, as part of the activities for the celebration of the 477th anniversary of the Foundation of the Hato de San Isidoro de Holguín and to the 169th anniversary of the birth of José Martí in 2022, of whose work Juan Arrom was a valuable researcher, according to the Casa de Iberoamérica Facebook profile.
During the event, the Economic Society of Friends of the Country in its Holguín Chapter will honor various personalities of the culture of the territory.
The program of activities includes the panels "The Legacy of the Work of José Juan Arrom and “Tribute to a personality of the Holguin culture”, by renowned local intellectuals.
It will have the online participation of Dr. Silvia Marina Arrom Jane's, Professor of Latin American Studies History Department, from Brandeis University in the United States, and Dr. José O. Arrom, from the Latino Study Center, in Chicago, United States.

The professor, researcher and essayist José Juan Arrom was born in Holguín in 1910, and died in Massachusetts, United States, in 2007. He graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy, and his teaching activity, literary and research work has revolved around the culture, history and letters of Cuba and the Caribbean and Latin American.
"History of Cuban dramatic literature", "The theater of Latin America in the colonial era", "General scheme of Latin American letters: essay of a method", "Studies of Antillean lexicology, Imagination of the New World: ten studies on the beginnings of Hispano-American narrative”, and “Mythology and pre-Hispanic arts of the Antilles”, are among his main books.
