The 27th edition of 'Fiesta de la Cultura Iberoamericana' (Ibero-American Culture Festival) began Sunday in Holguín with the opening of the virtual collective exhibition "In the same space", dedicated to the peoples and the art of resisting.
The exhibition inaugurated at the headquarters of the Casa de Iberoamérica in the historic center of this eastern city brings together some 20 creators, including renowned artists Cosme Proenza, Jorge Hidalgo and Lauro Hechavarría and young promises such as Ramón Jesús , graduated from the Regional Academy of Plastic Arts El Alba, said its curator Josvel Vázquez.
In the opening remarks of the Festival, Eduardo Ávila, president of the organizing committee and director of the Casa de Iberoamérica, highlighted the longing for the event and the opportunity to welcome each of the delegations, which year after year came to this city in eastern Cuba.
'The pandemic that our humanity has experienced has made it impossible for us to meet each other again in each of the activities of this Fiesta of the Ibero-American peoples; however, in these two years away we have not stopped thinking about the festival.
' Once again, social networks allow us to enjoy a program with samples of different artistic manifestations, as well as conferences aimed at analyzing the role of culture, history and the intelligentsia in defense of the Cuban Revolution,' Avila said.
In his speech, the academic highlighted the Day dedicated to the 30 years of the Juan Rius Rivera Solidarity Brigade with Cuba, from Puerto Rico, to be held on October 27.
Lisset Baster, specialist in Communication and Public Relations of the Casa de Iberoamérica, pointed out that most of the activities planned for this edition will reach the public through Casa’s official profile on Facebook, Telegram and Youtube and the Clave TV Channel.
The Festival was held for the first time in 1993 in Holguín, where it is located the archaeological capital of Cuba and the arrival point of Christopher Columbus to the largest of the Antilles, on October 28, 1492.
