Holguín launches online event to recall Dance Contest and Grand Prix

The event “Memorias de un Festival” to recall the past editions of the Vladimir Malakhov Dance Contest and Grand Prix with permanent headquarters in Holguín, will take place online from the 23rd to the 25th due to the restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In its second online edition, the event’s program will be broadcast in the Facebook profiles of Codanza and the Provincial Council of Performing Arts (CPAE) through videos sent by the ballet star Vladimir Malakhov and the international ballet businessman Paul Seaquist, co-chairs of the event, said to the ACN news agency Maricel Godoy, director of the Codanza Contemporary Dance Company.
The program also includes the presentation of archive materials on Malakhov's artistic career, as well as his arrival in the city of Holguín, the visits made to Art Schools in this province and the master classes given at the event.
Videos of the choreographies, fragments of works by the Codanza Company premiered in the contest, as well as works awarded in the event will also be available to the public.
Also, master classes given by renowned figures and dance masters to the participating dancers, interviews with important figures of that genre in Cuba and abroad, as well as critics, researchers and theorists of this art expression on the island, added Godoy.
Organized by the CPAE, this event aims to encourage the work of young dancers from Cuba and the world and bring dance as a means of communication and expression to the interested public.
On a biennial basis since 2018, the event is chaired by the ballet star Vladimir Malakhov, the teacher Maricel Godoy and Paul Seaquist. It has gathered in Holguín young dancers and choreographers from various companies around the world, including countries such as Spain, Mexico, Japan, Uruguay, the United States and France.
