Regarding the celebration on Sunday of the 60 anniversary of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) in Holguín, its president Julio Méndez Rivero said that despite the impacts of COVID-19, which has led to rethink projects and organizational strategies, the artistic avant-garde in the eastern territory remains firm alongside the Revolution.

Since its founding in 1961, the institution has become a banner of the cultural policy of the revolutionary process, bringing together the artistic and intellectual avant-garde in order to serve society from art and creation, said Méndez Rivero.

He noted that there has not been or will not be a cultural blackout in the province, as writers and artists have not stopped their creative work by carrying out various actions based on information technology and communications.

It stands out the Romerías de Mayo and the Ibero-American Culture Festival, the panels on the 60th anniversary of Words to Intellectuals, the premiere of a documentary based on testimonies about the work of Uneac in the midst of the pandemic and the realization of activities in the vaccination points, as well as in political-cultural events in support of the Revolution.

"Defending the Cuban Revolution over imperialist interests and culture as the patrimony of society, is the mission of the Cuban artistic vanguard, it is the role of worthy Cubans," he said.

He referred the program of activities for the celebration of the 60 anniversary of the organization, which includes exhibitions, forums, panels and colloquia that will run until next December, to recognize the relationship between culture and patriotism and unity of the Cuban political and artistic avant-garde.
