“Poesía de Cordel " is the new project organized by the Pedro Ortiz Literary Promoter in the city of Holguín, as part of the campaign “Vivo enamorado del libro " launched this year by the institution, which is dedicated to encouraging the habit of reading in all audiences, especially young people.
The initiative takes up the classic Portuguese modality of presenting publications to readers through texts hanging on a string, and with Cuban antecedents in publishing houses such as Ediciones Vigía, in Matanzas, and Cuadernos Papiro, in Holguín, told to the ACN news agency Moisés Mayán, specialist at the institution.
The project, designed for bookstores, consists of small works that accentuate the festive nature of buying a book, with local poets in this inaugural batch such as Delfín Prats, Lourdes González, Manuel García Verdecia, Belkis Méndez Eugenio Marrón, Luis Yuseff , José Luis Serrano and Gilberto Gonzáles Seik.
Mayán added that the choice of text must meet several parameters, as it should be classified as love poetry, be brief and the author should be within reach of his signature.
Once the poems are located, they are typed on a typewriter, as it is the iconic tool of the writer, then the edges of the page are scorched by fire, and later the text is glued to a small fold of craft paper, courtesy of the Holguín's Manufactured Paper Workshop, he added.
Each copy is minted and numbered before its author signs it, since the purpose of the project is that each person who acquires a text in the bookstore also takes home this handmade courtesy with the signature of the author, Mayán concluded.
