The Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets (FCBC) in Holguín, together with other associations in the province, boosts institutional collecting with the aim to protect, promote and exhibit an important part of artistic creation in the country.

It highlights the exhibitions organized by the Plastic Arts center and the FCBC, the acquisition of new pieces and their use in the setting of public work projects, as well as the exchange and sale relations with other institutions, such as the Casa de Iberoamérica.

The exhibit Colecciones, made up of 14 local plastic artists and exhibited at the Art Center during the Cuban Culture Day, is one of these necessary practices for artistic promotion and the preservation of the cultural memory of the nation, encouraging the work of the creators, researcher Martín Garrido told the ACN.

The exhibition included the work of prominent artists such as Cosme Proenza, Jorge Hidalgo and Lauro Hechavarría, among others.

On the other hand, the Casa de Iberoamérica recently requested the FCBC to purchase a new set of pieces in order to diversify and enrich its collection with the work of artists from several generations, which has been one of the institution's objectives for several years, when it began acquiring art works for its institutional sample.

With the purchase of 15 new pieces, the institution reaches approximately 50 art works in its collection, to exhibit and protect the work of artists such as Emilio Chiang, Argelio Cobiellas, José Ramiro Ricardo, Daniel Santos, Merlys Fernández, Lauro Hechavarría, María Los Ángeles Vidal, Freddy García Azze, Karel Maldonado, Jesús Borjas Ochoa and Ramón Jesús Pérez, commented its director, Eduardo Ávila Rumayor.

These new acquisitions, located in the recently inaugurated headquarters of the Center for the Development of Sociocultural Studies (CEDES), not only increase the economic heritage of Casa de Iberoamérica, he added, but also contribute to its setting, favor the presentations at the headquarters and the promotion of events in the province and the country, through traveling exhibitions.

Several institutions in the territory have promoted this type of collecting, adding to their art collections pieces by renowned local creators and others with a broad national trajectory.

The collections are a valid example of what can be achieved when there is the will to undertake this task with responsibility and vision for the future, as collecting is an art that demands from those who practice it, either individually or institutionally, not only from economic resources but also through specialized knowledge of cultural content, sensitivity and above all, an accurate judgment to select what really deserves to be treasured so that it lasts over time, added Martín Garrido.
